Artist Statement

 

I grew up in a culturally rich home, with an artist father and a naturally artistic mother who introduced us to all types of art and encouraged our creativity.  My parents also taught us to appreciate all of the elements of the natural world—animals, plants, rocks, sky, and sea. 

 

With my Ph.D. in immunology, I engaged in biomedical sciences as a laboratory researcher, writer, and editor, and also devoted myself to raising a family. Now I am following a path that combines my artistic roots with my natural sciences background to create collages and all-occasion cards.  

 

I use a wide variety of natural plant materials (flowers, leaves, seeds), along with other media (watercolor, assorted papers, ink, etc.).  The plant materials are treated with a matte or gloss coating for protection, as needed.
